Okay. I know I said I was going to watch and review the entire MCU, but I was in the mood to watch this and I had never seen it before, so I rented it. I realize it wasn’t on the list, but it is technically a Marvel movie, right? Anyways.
About the movie:
Deadpool (2016, rated R), directed by Tim Miller and starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Ed Skrein, TJ Miller, and Stefan Kapičić
Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a former Special Forces operative who now works as a mercenary. His world comes crashing down when evil scientist Ajax (Ed Skrein) tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. The rogue experiment leaves Deadpool with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. With help from mutant allies Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Deadpool uses his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
I thought this was a good movie! Funny, entertaining, and good plot. I knew I was going to like it when the beginning ‘credits’ started rolling, but were making fun of everyone instead of listing the actors. I love when you can just tell what vibes the ovie is going to have by the opening few scenes.
I really enjoyed the characters. I think the characters made the movie and if they had been lackluster, the movies would not have been what it is. I really enjoyed Wade’s character, and surprisingly, Colossus. Negasonic Teenage Warhead hardly spoke but I love her already. Vanessa was great, and Weasel was cut from the same cloth Wade was. Al and Dopinder really stole the show, though.
There were times where the violence/gore noises made me squirm, but they didn’t happen as often as you might expect.
This was a solid villain, even though his plot didn’t make much sense. Why did he enjoy torturing Deadpool so much? Why did he have to go after him? It wasn’t explained really, but that might be something a casual watcher (like myself) wouldn’t get; while a comic book fan would. Do me a favor- if you read the comics, A. was it explained? and B. where should I start if I wanted to read them? I really liked Deadpool’s character and humor.
I’d watch this again, and I am excited to see what the next movie has in store!
Did you see Deadpool when it came out, or are you like me who waits for years to go by so that they can rent the movie for a few bucks on Amazon to watch it? What did you think of it?
Stay safe, and happy watching!
