Blogtober: Books I want To Read But Probably Won’t

Hey everyone, welcome back to day 23 of Blogtober! Today I’ll be going over books I either ant to read or have started, but probably won’t finish. A lot of these will be popular books and well beloved books, so I apologize if the book I list is one of your favorites. For one reason or another, I just don’t plan on finishing them.

Let’s get to it.

my ramblings
  • Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth

I first started reading Divergent when I was around 12 or 13 years old, and it gave me some pretty bad anxiety. When I was about 15 or 16 years old, I gave the book another shot but it still wasn’t for me. Plus, now I associate it with my anxiety so there’s that. I most likely won’t be finishing it for that reason.

  • Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

I know, I know. I should hand in my nerd card. But Harry Potter isn’t the end-all-be-all of the book world. It’s okay to not have read it, or even like it. I started this series at the same age as Divergent, around 13 years old, and I got to the Goblet of Fire. I stopped reading about 1/4th of the way through, around the part where they were drawing the names for the competition.

I just don’t understand the hype around HP. I get it was the gateway into children’s and young adult fantasy. But I just don’t get why everyone is obsessed with the series. It’s possible one day in the future I’ll try picking the books up again, but I’m not holding my breath.

  • Project Nemesis trilogy by Brendan

This is another books that gave me anxiety. I actually started going to therapy after I read this book because it helped me realize I needed some help. The book just helped me realize this. The anxiety I had was of natural disasters, especially given that it was so hot where I lived that people’s lawns and compos piles were spontaneously com-busting and fields were catching fire. It felt like a very real possibly that the books’ plot could come true in my anxiety filled haze. I probably won’t be picking these books up again, just because of how anxious I felt. I’m not eager to repeat that feeling.

  • Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I picked up these books just because I’d heard a lot about them and I read the first book pretty quickly, but I had some issues with the characters. Plus, they’re so old now and I’d rather spend my time reading newer books that I enjoy more than outdated books I didn’t care for.

  • Royal Bastards trilogy by Andrew

I picked this book up because of the cover at Barnes & Noble, and I read it in one afternoon. I really enjoyed it and never expected the ending, but I read it so long ago that I’ve lost the initial interest I had in the books to continue reading the other books. I would like to finish the books eventually, but realistically I doubt I will.

  • Legend trilogy by Marie Lu

Like with Royal Bastards, I read the first one and never got around to reading the others. I really enjoyed the first book and maybe one day I’ll re-reading them, especially with Marie Lu publishing new books in the world. I read Legend so many years ago that I’ve forgotten most of what happened in it. Oops.

  • Across The Universe trilogy by Beth Revis

And finally, Beth Revis’ Across The Universe trilogy. I read the first one in preparation for meeting Beth on her Give The Dark My Love book tour. It was decent and had a fascinating premise but I guess it just didn’t keep up with my expectations. I was not expecting who the villain ended up being and I totally knew the romance was coming, but I just felt so-so about the book. I think the whole cryo-freeze idea is a good idea but I don’t know. Maybe I’ll get to book two eventually but not anytime soon.

final thoughts

So there you have it, the post that will make the most people mad! What books are you not likely to finish anytime soon? Any popular ones? This is a judgment free zone!

  1. Great topic for a post. I only read the Divergent series because of the hype. The violence inside really pushed my limits and I still can visualize the violence. The first book was the best one and then it went downhill in my opinion. So I would agree with you on this one. Harry Potter movies are so much better than the books with the CGI. The others you listed I haven’t read yet. I know I will never be reading Twilight series.

  2. I love Harry Potter but The Goblet of Fire is definitely my least favorite in the series – for the books and the movies. It’s okay that you don’t enjoy it though! I hate how snobby people can be when they find out somebody hasn’t read the books.

  3. I feel the same way about HP as you, and also stopped reading at the same point. I never understood the hype. Then I saw JKR liking and following extremely transphobic accounts, and I knew I was done for good.
