I am so excited to write this post. For day 12 of Blogtober, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite books that have ghosts! I have a few that I can think of off of the top of my head that I’m very excited to share with you all. Let’s start!
City of Ghosts by V.E Schwab
This one may seem fairly obvious, but it still counts! Cassidy Blake can see ghosts (and her best friend is a ghost!) whose parents take her to Edinburgh for their TV show. She seems so much more than she thought she would.
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
I’ll be honest: I’ve yet to read this book/series but I did start it a while back and I know that the MC deals a lot with ghosts so I can put this one on the list. Maybe this can be incentive to finish it…
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
The Shadowhunter world has ghosts all throughout it, but most notable is our dearly departed Jessamine. I know she plays a big role in the follow up series to this trilogy, ‘The Last Hours’, and was in Queen of Air and Darkness (I think? I haven’t read it yet!) I’m excited to get to know her better, regardless!
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
I feel as this one is also sort of obvious, but Moaning Myrtle should not be forgotten! SHe may not have been a super integral part of the series, but she still showed up and that’s what counts.
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater (Review to come)
One of my favorite characters in this whole series is actually a ghost. These books have been out for awhile now, but I’m still hesitant to mention who it is in case I spoil it for someone! But I love him and if you’ve read this series, you probably love him too.
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (Review to come)
This book is kinda problematic (I’ll be writing a review soon, hopefully, and explaining why I gave it 3 stars) but it is still hugely beloved by many people, and it does have ghosts. In fact, if this book didn’t have ghosts, then the story probably would not have happened. Thank you, ghost.
Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
This is a book I haven’t heard a lot of, but most people have probably heard of the author, Kendare Blake: the author of the Three Dark Crowns series! I personally have yet to read this, but it’s on my TBR list! One day….
Battle of The Labyrinth by Rick Riordan
In the book prevous to this one, we met Nico and (tragically) learned who his father was: Hades. That means Nico has the ability to communicate with the dead and in this book, he summons quite a few ghosts with some kids meals from Mcdonalds.
In the next series, Heroes of Olympus, there are other ‘ghosts’, especially in Camp Jupiter.
How The Light Gets In by Katy Upperman (Review)
One of the main plot lines in this book is the fact that her dead sister is a ghost and haunting her in her Aunt’s B&B while she helps renovate. It’s a sad story about sisters, falling in love, and moving on.
Smoke and Key by Kelsey Sutton (Review)
This book is one of the best books I read this year so far, so that’s why it gets included because I’m ot actually sure if the characters are ghosts or undead? The characters die, then fall through the earth to an in-between and are still technically alive. But they’re dead. It’s confusing.
So there you go! Books with ghosts! Am I missing any other ghost books? What is your favorite fictional ghost? I live in one of America’s most haunted cities and am taking a ghost tour next weekend so I can’t wait to learn some stories about my city!
