I saw Arin (from Tomes of Our Lives) post this book tag and I thought it would be fun to fill out! She didn’t tag me, I just decided to go for it. If you find you enjoy this tag and would like to do the same, go for it!

What’s the best book you’ve read so far in 2019?
Oof, I’ve read so many good ones that it’s hard to choose! How about I choose a favorite from each month?
- January: A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
- February: The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon
- March: The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman
- April: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
- May: Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
- June: Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
What has been you’re favorite sequel of the year so far?
Is there a new release you haven’t read yet but are really excited to?
I have yet to read the newest Shatter me book! I was so shocked by how the last one ended, but I still haven’t read Defy Me!
What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
Oh boy, there are so many! I’m pretty excited for Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff and Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo! (I even bought the special Mini Edition boxes from Fox & Wit!)
What is the most disappointing book you’ve read so far?
I read The Umbrella Academy Vol. 1 after I watched and loved the show, and It was pretty disappointing. The show improved it SO MUCH. A question for those of you who have read the series: do the comics get better with each installment? Or am I better off not reading them?
What is your surprise favorite so far?
Okay, I have two answers for this one. The first is Smoke & Key by Kelsey Sutton. I read it for a blog tour (find my post & review HERE!) and I did not expect to love it as much as I did. As soon as I finished it I went back and reread it after I have given myself some time to stew in my thoughts.
My second one is Lola & The Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. I used to never read contemporary or romance books, and I devoured this series within a few days. Lola surprised me the most because of how much second hand embarrassment there was, but I found I could NOT stop thinking about it the next day, or rereading parts of it. I really need to get on reviewing that one lol.
Who is your favorite new to you OR debut author?
This year I discovered Tahereh Mafi’s books, and I’m so glad I did. I read the Shatter Me trilogy within a week, and I loved A Very Large Expanse of Sea more than I have words to describe. I really want to pick up her middle grade series sometime.
Who is your favorite fictional crush from this year?
Malachiaz from Wicked Saints by Emily Duncan. (My Review) I’m still a little heartbroken from reading that book. Next?
Who is your new favorite character?
Violet Saunders from Christine Lynn Herman’s The Devouring Gray. If given the chance, I would date her. Or try to become her BFF. Either way, she deserves the world. (My Review)
A book that made you cry?
We Are Okay by Nina Lacour. The ending really got me. When I met her on her tour she just had, I had her sign one of my favorite quotes from the book inside. It says “I learn that I am a tiny piece of a miraculous world” It is a gay, depressing book and I totally recommend it. I don’t know if I can bring myself to review it though, so you’ll have to take my word for it!
A book that made you happy?
Small Potatoes by Sarah Hunt! She sent me a copy to review (find that HERE) and I loved it immensely. It may have been short, but I would read a book 5x that length of just content like that from Sarah.
Your favorite book/movie to TV show adaption you’ve seen so far?
The Umbrella Academy on Netflix! I binged it in two days. It was epic. I adore Klaus. GO WATCH IT.
What is the most beautiful book you have bought?
Kingsbane by Claire LeGrand. Technically, my Grandma bought it for me but it is easily the prettiest book I’ve received this year. My runner up is Bloodwitch by Susan Dennard. It was 3 bucks on the kindle! I just had to complete my Witchlands collection on my kindle.
What is your favorite post you have written this year so far?
I’m pretty proud of my Cassandra Clare master post. It highlights all of her Shadowhunter books, what series they are in, when they came out, what order/s you should read them in, and more!
What are six books you want to read by the end of the year?
In no particular order…
- The Ladies Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee
- We Hunt The Flame by Hafsah Faizal
- Queen of Air & Darkness by Cassandra Clare
- Children of Blood & Bone by Tomi Aydemi
- The Priory of The Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
- Renegades by Marissa Meyer
Yes, these are all back-listed books! It wouldn’t be a blog post by yours truly if I didn’t expand on the answer, now would it? In typical Sam ™ fashion, let’s give more answers than I’m supposed to!
Here are six books I want to read by the end of the year (That haven’t been released yet!)
Again, in no particular order…
- Redemption Prep by Samuel Miller
- The June Boys by Court Stevens
- Call Down The Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater
- Dead Voices by Katherine Arden

That’s the end of the tag! What answers would you change? Are there any you agree with?
